UK – harm reduction approach for breast feeding

Leading paediatrician, Dr Hermione Lyall of London told the British HIV Association (BHIVA) conference last week that although risk of HIV transmission when breast feeding was very low when viral load was supressed, there was not yet enough evidence to recommend “undetectable = untransmittable” (U=U).  Dr Lyall recommended taking a harm reduction approach for women who wanted to breastfeed.
