The new, extremely effective Direct acting Antivirals (DAA) have been available and subsidised in Australia since earlier this year. The Kirby Institute is currently recruiting for a study called CEASE which has been designed to eliminate hepatitis C amongst people living with HIV in Australia. The Health Minister, Sussan Ley announced at the end of 2015 that ground breaking therapies for Hepatitis C will be listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) on March 1st. This means that people with hepatitis C in Australia will have affordable access to treatments which don’t have the debilitating side affects of existing interferon-based treatments.
