A large proportion of people living with HIV in Australia are now 45+ and are facing many of the challenges associated with both HIV and ageing. PositiveLife NSW has an Ageing Support program.
Patients living with HIV who are having difficulty navigating the aged care, disability or health care systems or need support accessing telehealth can be referred directly to the Positive Life NSW Ageing Support program.
Positive Life NSW Ageing Support program offers people living with HIV who are 45 years or older extra support to navigate and access aged care, disability and health care services. They assist with complex and lengthy application paperwork, working through the bureaucratic assessment maze, finding solutions to access homecare support, healthcare services, financial or disability assistance from trained support workers also living with HIV themselves (peers). People living with HIV who are 45+ experiencing HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) or other HIV-related cognitive impairment will especially benefit from this Ageing Support program.
Positive Life Ageing Support services are offered within a COVID-safe environment, with extra consideration made for people living with HIV who are anxious or self-isolating to reduce their risk of coronavirus transmission.
