Living Well as You Age with HIV

Living Well as You Age with HIV

Thanks to modern HIV treatment, people are living longer and healthier lives more than ever before. There are many ways to look after your health and feel your best as you age.

As you get older, you might face similar health issues as other people your age, things like heart problems, bone changes, or memory and concentration challenges. Some research shows these conditions may appear a little earlier for people living with HIV.

The good news: you have control over how you age. Here’s what can help:

  • Stay on your HIV treatment and keep your viral load suppressed
  • Ask your doctor about regular check-ups for your heart, bones, brain, kidneys and more
  • Keep your body and mind active through exercise, eating well, getting enough rest, and doing things you enjoy
  • Stay connected with others. Social support, peer groups or volunteering can help maintain your wellbeing and sense of purpose

Be proud of how far you’ve come. Ageing with HIV is no longer about limits, it’s about living a full and meaningful life. With the right care and support, ageing with HIV can be a time of strength, connection and confidence.
