World AIDS Day 2024: It Starts With Me
This year’s World AIDS Day theme is "It Starts with Me." This theme highlights several important points:
Raising Awareness of HIV Starts with Me
While new HIV diagnoses are declining, the fight isn’t over. Raising awareness begins with each of us—by increasing knowledge about testing, treatment, and prevention options within our communities, among friends, and family. Key prevention strategies include condom use knowing your status, using sterile injecting equipment, regular sexual health testing, and considering pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP).
Dispelling Myths and Misinformation about HIV Starts with Me
Despite progress, HIV stigma and discrimination persist, often fuelled by ignorance and misinformation. Stigma can harm the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. It’s up to each of us to combat these misconceptions.
Honouring Those We’ve Lost and Supporting People Living with HIV
Honouring Those We’ve Lost and Supporting People Living with HIV Starts with Me While people with HIV are living longer, healthier lives today, we must continue to fight inequality, promote understanding, and advocate for human and health rights. This World AIDS Day let’s remember those we have lost and stand in solidarity with those living with HIV.
